SeventySix Capital Expands Focus by Adding Michael Schreiber

Schreiber Brings Operating and Media Expertise from NBCU, Comcast and Altice USA

PHILADELPHIA, May 20, 2020-- From its position at the epicenter of tech, sports, media and betting, SeventySix Capital, the sports tech venture capital company, sees a grand reawakening and convergence within the sports industry. As highlighted by COVID-19, sports is changing forever. Sports and media are becoming more tech and data-focused, more player-focused, and more personalized and interactive. To accelerate participation in this evolution and enhance its investment strategy in sports tech, esports, sports betting and the overall sports-consumer experience, SeventySix Capital announces that accomplished media executive Michael Schreiber has joined as a General Partner.

As a General Partner at SeventySix Capital, Schreiber will work closely with Managing Partners Wayne Kimmel and Jon Powell, and Managing Director, Chad Stender, to accelerate the growth of its sports technology portfolio companies, expand its strategic investor network, and enhance the team’s media, digital and television relationships.

The addition of Schreiber adds operational experience and a media competency to the SeventySix Capital team as it continues to invest in the convergence of the physical and digital worlds in sports where media serves as the glue between the two. Schreiber served as the Chief Content Officer at Fortune 500 company Altice USA and President of Altice USA News. He was a founding member of Altice USA, part of their first management team and a key stakeholder in their acquisition of Cheddar.

Prior to his role at Altice USA, Schreiber served as Senior Vice President at Comcast, Content Acquisition, where he led the execution of new media and digital content deals. Before Comcast, Schreiber worked at NBCUniversal as the Vice President of Business Development and Digital Distribution, where he was a key stakeholder in the founding, development and launch of Hulu.

“We are thrilled to have attracted a top media executive with both entrepreneurial and investment skills to join our team as we continue to invest in what we are calling the grand reawakening of sports,” said SeventySix Capital Managing Partner Wayne Kimmel.

“SeventySix Capital focuses on working with top industry leaders and entrepreneurs who are pushing the limits and are innovating in the sports industry. That’s why we are so excited about having Mike, who has a proven track record of success and a strong relationship network. Most importantly, Mike exemplifies our commitment to working with 'smart and nice' people who support good people with great ideas, contribute to the community and mentor the next generation of people hungry to change the world,” Kimmel further explained.

“I am excited to join the team at SeventySix Capital. My experiences at NBCU, Comcast and Altice USA have highlighted the changes and convergence in the sports industry. There is tremendous opportunity in front of us at SeventySix Capital in terms of investing, advising and making strategic introductions for our sports portfolio companies,” said Schreiber.

Additionally, Schreiber stated, “Over the last few months, I have spent time with the management teams of several of SeventySix Capital’s portfolio companies and I continue to be impressed with their track record in partnering with great founders and companies. I am bullish on their prospects and cannot wait to work with Wayne, Jon, Chad and the team.”

Schreiber grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and is a passionate Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan. He graduated from the University of Virginia. Thereafter, he earned his MBA from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management and graduated from the Harvard Business School’s Executive Education program. Schreiber is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO). He lives in the suburbs of Philadelphia with his wife and their three children.
