Intrepid Advises GraphPad Software on its Majority Recapitalization with Insight Venture Partners
Parent company of Prism, the premier statistical analysis and graphing software solution for scientific research, continues down expansion path
LOS ANGELES, November 13, 2017-- Intrepid Investment Bankers (Intrepid), a leading middle-market investment bank, today announced that it acted as the exclusive financial advisor to GraphPad Software, Inc. (GraphPad)—the premier provider of data analysis, statistics and graphing software solutions for scientific research applications—on its majority recapitalization with Insight Venture Partners (Insight), a leading global private equity and venture capital firm that has raised more than $18 billion since its founding in 1995.
Headquartered in La Jolla, Calif., GraphPad offers powerful statistical analysis, curve-fitting and graphing software solutions designed for scientists with varying levels of statistical knowledge. The company was founded in 1989 by Dr. Harvey Motulsky and joined shortly thereafter by its now President, Paige Searle. GraphPad’s flagship product, Prism, has become embedded in the regular workflow of researchers, such that experience with Prism is now an industry-standard prerequisite for research positions across many disciplines of science. “We set out to make it easier for scientists to analyze and graph data, and to learn the principles of biostatistics,” said Dr. Motulsky, Founder of GraphPad. “Intrepid’s Software & Services team truly understood our company’s vision and value to scientists in universities, research institutions and corporations, and so were able to connect us with a great partner who can help GraphPad expand.”
“Harvey and Paige have built a company that has attracted a captive base of blue-chip and academic customers in more than 110 countries. The consistency of the company’s performance over its 30-plus year history has been truly remarkable. We are pleased to have helped them with their long-term goals for GraphPad,” said Mike Rosenberg, Senior Managing Director and President of Intrepid.
“GraphPad has a strong subscription-based, recurring revenue model and outperforms its competition year after year,” said Christopher Park, Managing Director and the Head of the Software & Services practice at Intrepid. “Their partnership with Insight will further their strategy for future growth.” Tristan Snyder, Senior Vice President and Co-Head of the Software & Services practice at Intrepid, added: “Insight is investing in a company ripe for continued expansion, both within life sciences and other areas of research. Their deep software expertise makes them an ideal partner to help the company capitalize on these opportunities.”
Insight Venture Partners has made over 300 investments in high-growth software, Internet and data services companies worldwide. The firm’s global portfolio spans 65 countries across six continents, including notable investments such as Cylance, Diligent and Qualtrics. Insight’s mission is to find, fund and work successfully with visionary executives, providing them with practical, hands-on growth expertise to foster long-term success.
