Relay Ventures Promotes Alex Baker to Partner

TORONTO, Ontario and MENLO PARK, Calif., December 11, 2013-- Relay Ventures today announced that it has promoted Alex Baker to Partner. Baker has been with Relay Ventures since 2008. He will continue to source investment opportunities; oversee Relay's direct investments in a broad range of mobile payments, application and services companies; and actively participate on the boards of directors of portfolio companies.

"Since joining Relay Ventures almost six years ago, Alex has been instrumental in identifying and bringing new investment opportunities to the table," says John Albright, co-founder and managing partner at Relay Ventures. "We are pleased to recognize his contributions to the firm by promoting him from principal to partner."

Relay Ventures is the only early stage venture fund in North America focused exclusively on mobile computing. The firm has more than 40 mobile startups and later stage companies in its portfolio, and is the only Canadian VC fund with a full-time presence in Silicon Valley.

Baker is based out of Relay's Toronto office, and is an active board member and observer in supporting Influitive, ClearFit, TribeHR (acquired by NetSuite), and Viewdle (acquired by Google). He oversees the firm's affiliate program investments, including GrowLab, Extreme Startups, Ryerson Digital Media Zone and Next36.

Prior to joining Relay, Alex worked as a management consultant with BearingPoint and PwC Consulting where he led a wide range of consulting assignments covering business strategy and the implementation of retail banking, consumer and commercial credit card and loyalty marketing solutions. Alex began his career at The Loyalty Group where he helped launched the AIR MILES for Business program. He is a graduate from the Schulich School of Business at York University and is a Kauffman Fellow.
