FindTheBest Raises $11 Million in Series B Funding to Help People Make Quick and Informed Decisions
New World Ventures Leads Round; Funds Will Be Used to Increase Category Breadth, Add Monetization Channels and Expand Internationally
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., March 5, 2013-- FindTheBest, the unbiased, data-driven comparison platform, announced today that it has raised $11 million in Series B financing led by New World Ventures, with participation from Montgomery & Co. and existing investors, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Kevin O'Connor, founder and CEO of FindTheBest and formerly founder of DoubleClick.
The funding brings the company's total capital raised to $17 million. FindTheBest plans to use the funds to enter new market segments, expand internationally and build out monetization of the platform and its 20 million monthly visitors.
FindTheBest simplifies decision-making by presenting the most important criteria in a consumer-friendly way across hundreds of product categories. It provides apples-to-apples comparisons on topics from travel to CRM software to financial services, all designed to help people and companies make the most informed and personalized decision possible.
"People waste hours contemplating important decisions -- whether it's an expensive purchase like a new appliance, or a life-changing decision like which college to attend -- and information on the web often confuses more than it helps," said Kevin O'Connor, founder and CEO of FindTheBest. "Searching online is an effective way to access massive amounts of information on any topic, but the more important the decision, the more overwhelming the content can be -- especially if it's cluttered by advertisements."
FindTheBest was created to give people a one-stop solution for all their decision-making needs by presenting objective data on hundreds of topics in an organized and unbiased way.
FindTheBest only obtains data from reputable sources: public and third party databases, primary sources like manufacturer and vendor websites, and expert and user ratings. The information is presented in easy-to-understand tables with filters and smart ratings, enabling consumers and businesses to quickly screen options based on personal priorities.
FindTheBest encompasses nine broad categories: Business, Education, Electronics, Health, Home & Family, Motors, Software, Sports & Recreation and Travel & Lifestyle -- and new topics are frequently added. FindTheBest can be used to help find the best of everything, from doctors and dog breeds, to dating websites and office printers.
"FindTheBest's innovative technology and creative team have developed a powerful platform to help consumers uniquely navigate a universe of overwhelming choices," said Matt McCall, New World Ventures partner. "I look forward to ramping up this groundbreaking company with this team."
"I chose to invest in FindTheBest early on, not only because Kevin has a stellar track record of building successful companies like DoubleClick, but also because I could relate to the problem of 'choice overload' that the platform elegantly addresses," said Randy Komisar, General Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. "FindTheBest is at an exciting point in its growth trajectory, gaining significant market traction and is quickly becoming the go-to decision making website for consumers and businesses around the globe."
FindTheBest also runs a network of sites built on its proprietary data content platform which include: FindTheData, helping consumers find data within a variety of verticals; FindTheCompany, a directory of US companies and organizations; FindTheListing, listing home rentals, items for sale, and pets; FindTheCoupons, helping shoppers find coupons and promotional codes.
FindTheBest helps people make quick and informed decisions by presenting data in a straightforward, customizable way without advertising clutter. At FindTheBest, people can compare apples-to-apples data, side-by-side, across a variety of categories. It presents the facts -- obtained from reputable sources: public and third party databases, primary sources like manufacturer and vendor websites, and expert and user ratings -- in easy-to-use tables with smart filters, so that people can decide what's best based on their personal priorities.
